How to Bluff in Poker

Bluffing in poker is an intrinsic part of the game and without it poker game would not have been so popular and attractive. It's a deception technique that is used by players in different versions of poker to win the game. But it has often been found that many amateur players bluff far more often than necessary that leads to their defeat. So the basic question appears: When and how to bluff in poker?

A tricky question, though to answer as every player has their own approach to poker bluffing. Still certain poker strategy would help you in knowing when to bluff to win the pot.

Information is shrouded during the poker game. As part of the poker strategy, players act on the incomplete and imperfect information to bluff. Bluffing is the ability to tactfully represent that you have the best hand and also making your opponents believe you.

Bluffing should be done at the moment you decipher your opponent will fold. And this ability to decipher comes only through practice. The better you guess your opponent's move more capable you are in bluffing.

There are no specified rules; however, for bluffing in Texas Hold'em as every hand in it is different from the next; the best tip is to identify situations in which a bluff is likely to be successful based on the way your opponents are playing.

While making bluffs in poker, you should consider certain things and situations on the table -- tight or loose, about the table limit, whom and how many opponents you are trying to bluff, about your situation in the poker game and also your table image.

It's also advisable not to be apprehensive about being unknown to the table and your opponents as they have no idea about your talent. This fact can be easily and wisely exploited by you. To be more precise, this is the perfect situation where you can successfully bluff.

If you are in last position, you can make more successful bluffs on the table. And if you have the best hand and come out betting, your opponent won't always know whether you're bluffing or not.

Bluffing and the threat of bluffing go hand in hand. The threat of a bluff enables a player with a good hand to win more money than he would if his opponent knew he never bluffed.

Avoid bluffing when you feel that you have been exposed or when the flop looks risky. Also, when you have lot of opponents you should avoid this. While playing with maniacs dare not to do bluffing as it's very hard to predict or guess their situation. Also in poker you should not do bluffing when you are losing.
